How to Choose the Right Hot Tub: 7 Questions to Ask Before You Buy

A hot tub can become the favorite spot in your backyard, year-round. But with so many sizes, seating layouts and features to choose from, it helps to know what you’re looking for before you shop. Here are seven questions we help Hudson Valley homeowners work through every day in our Goshen showroom.

1. How Many People Will Use It?

Think about who will use the hot tub most often. A couple who wants a quiet soak at night needs something very different from a family that likes to entertain. Hot tubs range from cozy models for two to large spas that seat seven.

2. Do You Want a Lounger or All Seats?

A lounge seat lets you stretch out fully, which many people love. Others prefer all upright seats so more people can fit. Sitting in a few different layouts is the best way to decide.

3. What Kind of Massage Do You Want?

Jet count isn’t everything. Pay attention to where the jets are placed and how each seat feels. Some seats focus on the neck and shoulders, others on the lower back, calves or feet.

4. Where Will It Go?

Measure your space and think about access. You’ll need a solid, level base, room to walk around the tub and access to electrical service. Consider the view from the tub, privacy from neighbors and how far it is from the back door on a cold winter night.

5. Which Features Matter Most to You?

Popular options include LED lighting, waterfalls, Wi-Fi controls and upgraded cabinets. Decide which features you’ll actually use so you can put your budget where it matters.

6. Which Shell and Cabinet Colors Fit Your Backyard?

The shell color and cabinet finish set the look of your hot tub. Seeing the colors in person helps, since they can look different on a screen.

7. Who Will Help After the Sale?

A hot tub is a long-term purchase. Buying from a local dealer means you have a team nearby for water care products, water testing and service.
